Safety Emergency Escape Chute Systems and Solutions
BLISSTON Nigeria Limited has pioneered the introduction of smart Escape Chute Systems in the country. Blisston Nigeria Limited supplies and installs Building Fire Evacuation Systems, which can be retro fitted to existing buildings, and can be supported by the development of fire emergency plans and fire warden training.

The Ingstrom Escape Chute is fully fire resistant, and can evacuate up to 25 people per minute from heights of up to 35 floors. It can be deployed from the roof top, via windows, or can be permanently installed inside the building. Various other solutions are available from Blisston for building fire evacuation
Manoverboard Solutions - SMRT V100
BLISSTON has also introduced into the industry the first Intelligent Lifejacket System which is revolutionary solution in offshore personnel safety and Search and Rescue. Floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels and offshore drilling platforms are workplaces where the safety and physical security of personnel has always been a challenge due to many factors. Everyday risks include personnel transfers by helicopter or vessels, working over the side, emergency abandonment and being subjected to all manner of adverse weather and sea conditions. As an industry, Oil and Gas companies spend in excess of $US2 Billion every year ensuring the safety of its workers. It's a serious business knowing that there is a man overboard emergency within seconds of it occurring and being able to locate and recover the person in the water quickly is one of the key challenges faced by occupational health and safety managers. Conventional emergency distress beacons such as 406 MHz PLBs, are ‘manually activated’ which send the emergency signal to land-based receivers. The SRT V100 is automatically activated upon contact with water. This is of utmost importance if the man-overboard is injured or unconscious in the harsh marine environment of many offshore drilling fields where hypothermia and death can occur within minutes.
Mobilarm
Mobilarm's maritime survivor locating device, the SMRT V100, which can be integrated with lifejackets, is the first water-activated device to transmit a Mayday Man Overboard distress alert and real-time GPS coordinates via VHF DSC (Digital Selective Calling) and VHF voice to all VHF receivers in range, including the parent vessel or station. The localized alarm to the people in the best position to save the casualty - those closest to the incident - means the chances of survival are greatly improved.

The SMRT V100 is a water-activated Maritime Survivor Locating Device (MSLD) that transmits accurate and regular GPS coordinates of a man overboard directly to rescuers via VHF marine radio. This palm sized radio distress beacon can be integrated with a lifejacket or Personal Flotation Device (PFD), clipped to webbing or harness, or carried in a pocket and secured with a lanyard.

When its water sensors detect the wearer has gone overboard, the SMRT V100 automatically transmits a “Mayday, man overboard” distress alert using VHF DSC (Digital Selective Calling) plus quickly acquires a GPS lock, then transmits its GPS coordinates to all vessels in the vicinity, including the parent vessel, and to any onshore VHF receivers in range.

The distress alert is also broadcast on the VHF marine radio emergency channel 16 in a synthesized voice to maximize the number of people who can receive the alert and respond to the emergency. Alerting range is VHF line-of-sight: 2 to 10NM surface-to-surface and up to 40NM surface-to-air. The radio distress messages are repeated at regular intervals for up to 24 hours to provide rescuers with the real-time location of the man overboard. The device also has a strobe light to assist with visual homing.

The only equipment needed to receive the distress alert is a VHF radio. All marine search and rescue authorities, SOLAS-compliant commercial vessels and a growing number of leisure craft are equipped with DSC-compatible VHF radios. This makes using the SMRT V100 for man overboard detection and in-water tracking one of the most effective, universally acceptable lifesaving devices available today.

SMRT-Lifejackets
Combining the detection, tracking and location capability of a Mobilarm Maritime Survivor Locating Device with the superior inflation, buoyancy and overall comfort of leading lifejacket designs, makes Mobilarm's MSLD-ready range of inflatable lifejackets ideal for commercial, industrial and abandonment use.

The choice of lifejacket depends on the location and conditions in which you operate, but rest assured that all the featured models comply with the necessary regulations to suit your needs. Consolidate your safety equipment and benefit from:

  • Buoyancy and emergency alerting capability in one - your best chance of survival and recovery in a man overboard event
  • Automatic distress alert on submersion in water and/or auto-inflation of lifejacket - MSLD is armed and locked in the READY position at all times
  • Guaranteed optimal antenna position - achieves maximum transmission range
  • Fully enclosed beacon within lifejacket valise or pocket - MSLD is protected and reduces snagging hazard
  • No change to existing safety procedures - carry the MSLD every time you wear your lifejacket.
SMRT STATION
sMRT Station lets you track, find and save your crew on the move. This fully portable base unit is designed specifically for fast response vessels and RIBs. It monitors AIS, 121.5MHz and VHF DSC technology. When the sMRT Station receives the DSC and AIS positions from a beacon it displays them on the worldwide chart plotter. The portable sMRT Station is the comprehensive all in one solution required to enable the fast rescue of your crew. (Please visit www.mrtsos.com for more details)
